Important Information

School Hours:  Please note that the start and end times have changed since last year.  Homeroom start time is now 8:35 a.m. and dismissal time is 2:40 p.m daily. Students’ first day of school is Tuesday, September 2, 2014.  This is a full day of school.

Transportation: If there is a change in dismissal for your first grader on any given day, please be sure to send a note to school with your child. The note must include your child’s first and last name, room number and the date. The office must be informed of any change in dismissal by 10:30 A.M. unless it is an emergency.

School Supplies: It is strongly recommended your child have a backpack to use for transporting school work, projects, etc. to and from school each day.  Please make sure your child’s name is somewhere on the backpack.  I will provide your child with all other necessary school supplies.  I ask that students do not bring supplies from home as they may get lost or mixed in with our classroom materials. Also, I ask that personal items such as toys, games, and stuffed animals stay home to avoid disrupting student learning.

Supplies for Home: Your child will need pencils and some coloring utensils (crayons, markers, or colored pencils) for homework and special home projects throughout the school year.  It may be wise to take advantage of the great deals on school supplies to use at home. You will find it helpful to have these materials.

Personal Belongings: Please be sure to label ANYTHING and EVERYTHING with your child’s name, school name and room number (i.e., Name, Pine Glen, Room 105) including backpacks, lunch boxes, jackets, hats, etc.

Healthy Hearty Breakfast/ Lunch: Our schedule has been planned so that first grade lunch will be served at 11:05am.  I encourage you to provide your child with a healthy hearty breakfast before school to ensure they will be able to focus and learn all morning long.  Likewise, a healthy, hearty lunch is also recommended so that your child will keep that focus throughout the afternoon.

Water: I strongly recommend that children bring plenty of water to drink at school each day.  (Two water bottles per child is suggested!) Your child will have access to his/her water throughout the day.  This will also help your child stay focused and learning all day long! Please be sure your child’s name is on his/her water.

Lunch: The price of lunch is approximately $3.00. This price includes an entree, vegetable, fruit and milk/juice. Students will also be able to purchase snacks to enjoy with their lunch including cookies, chips, or ice cream.  Please discuss with your child whether purchasing a snack is an option for them.  All students will be issued an ID card with their name, picture and PIN number.  Elementary students will leave their ID cards in school to help eliminate losing them.  The card is linked to the student’s online lunch account. Students can access their lunch money by using their card.  Parents/Guardians can add money to the account online at www.Paypams.com or by sending in a check made out to Burlington School Lunch Program.  Please follow the instructions on the website.  It may not be necessary to register for a new card if your child used this system in kindergarten.

Recess: We go outdoors everyday unless precipitation prevents it.  Please send your child to school

dressed appropriately for the weather.

Specials: First graders will go to music, art and P.E. Please make sure students wear sneakers on P.E. days (Monday and Thursday) as they are required for participation. We will have art on Tuesday. Art can be hands-on and messy at times. You may wish to send in a smock/paint shirt that can be left in school. Please make sure this is labeled with your child’s name and Room 105.  Music will be on Wednesday and Friday.

Back to School Night: Mark your calendar for Pine Glen’s Back to School Night on Tuesday, September 23, 2014. More information will be sent home as it gets closer.
